Beginner Tip

Note:- If you're just starting out with affiliate marketing, create your content first before applying to any of these affiliate programs.

It's easy to worry about just starting affiliate marketing. I understand that: you want to start seeing results early.

However, in my opinion, affiliate marketing is a long game. It can take at least six to 12 months before you start seeing any measurable results.

It’s all normal for a blogger to work on a site for six months, get frustrated, and then quit.

Affiliate managers want to see business-looking websites and actively curated content. Note that they do not recognize you through the hole in the wall.

I recommend creating content and working actively on your website for at least one to three months before submitting your blog to any of the services mentioned below.

You may publish content with references from many competing merchants before attempting to accept you into an affiliate program.

Otherwise, you may be rejected by a highly sought-after merchant or affiliate network. Rejection for the first time than possible means you will have a hard time accepting in the future.

Be very strategic when submitting your merchant applications.

1. Amazon Associates Program

Amazon Associates is an affiliate network of choice for many beginners. Now, Amazon Associates isn’t perfect - but I’ll go into another article on that. However, this program is great for anyone who is just starting out.

Amazon is the world's largest and most trusted e-commerce service. If you want to link any products for sale, Amazon Mazon should be yours.

For example, the software product Quicken once had a program related to Commission Junction, which is the second network on this list. I put a lot of affiliate links for Quicken on my blog investor junkie and they worked great.

However, Quicken's affiliate program closed unexpectedly. I quickly changed my affiliate links to use Amazon instead. In this way, I was able to monetize the web pages referenced by Quicken.

If you already have an Amazon account - and who doesn't? - You're already there. Ideally, if you have a business, you should sign up for Amazon using your company information.

Amazon’s biggest problem is that its affiliate programs are country-specific. If your traffic is coming from one part of the world, you need to make sure your Amazon links are set for that country.

Here are the 14 countries where Amazon offers its affiliate program and the corresponding links to join:

  • United States
  • Canada
  • Brazil
  • Mexico
  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Spain
  • United Kingdom
  • China
  • Japan
  • India
  • Australia
  • United Arab Emirates

If you are looking to better manage your Amazon affiliate links, I recommend the WordPress plugin AAWP. This plugin can create Amazon links that apply exclusively to each site visitor's country. AAWP can also display current Amazon prices and create product summary boxes that drive conversions to your site.

2. Commission Junction (CJ)

Commission Junction is just behind Amazon, Commission Junction is probably the second oldest affiliate program on the Internet. Most people in the industry refer to the company as "CJ". Unlike Amazon, it’s a network rather than an e-commerce store.

This means that CJ - just like the other networks on this list, will connect you to (affiliated) merchants and will manage most of the relationships for you.

If you are a new affiliate seller, this may be a godsend because you do not need to work directly with the merchant.

At the time of writing, more than 1,500 merchants use CJ's services. These merchants have different types of nooks and crannies, so it is highly recommended to join this network.

The CJ sign-up process is not particularly difficult. But once you need to apply with specific trades. The difficulty of the application process varies from trader to trader. There are some that will approve you immediately, others will take a few days and leave you forever without any response.

3. Impact

Influence is a young affiliate network on this list. The company was founded in 200 commissions by former employees of Commission Junction, Savings.com and Leadpoint.

At the time of writing, Impact's network has over 1000 merchants. Like Commission Junction, there is a diverse range of traders that should fit most vertically.

The application process for joining Impact may be a bit difficult for CJ, but once it gets in the way, it has become easier for me to accept from traders.

I think the effects reporting and postback options are more flexible than other affiliate programs. If a merchant uses multiple affiliate networks (which is normal), I always use the first impression.

4. Awin

The next one on this list you may have never heard of. Awin is a relatively new player on the field. This is the result of the merger of two other affiliate networks,  Zanox and Affiline, in August 2017.

With over 8000 businesses, Awin is a great network and easy to use. In Win offers affiliate programs in many countries, so I recommend this if you have some international visitors. Keep in mind, however, that Win’s merchants focus more on physical products than software or SaaS.

5. ShareASale

Shares are part of Awin and they have some great trading options available. ShareASale currently works with over 1000 merchants that offer everything from physical products to software services. This is perfect because of the focus on internet marketing of this site.

The application process is relatively simple and you can access conversion data from existing affiliates. The limited number of links available from most merchants is just my grip.

One of the great things about the ShareASale service is the insights into the effectiveness of the merchants you work with. The stocks provide you with details such as average sales, conversion rate, EPC (earnings per click), and how they are ranked in stocks services.

6. FlexOffers

Next on this list is FlexOffers.

In most cases, FlexOffers offers affiliate programs just like any other network, such as CJ. FlexOffers has more than 12,000 merchants available in its system. It is probably one of the largest affiliate networks available.

FlexOffers works directly with most merchants but is known as a "sub-affiliate" platform. This means that FlexOffers itself joins a merchant's program as an affiliate and allows bloggers to use its affiliate links instead of applying directly to the merchant. In return, you will split the commission for each associated signup with FlexOffers.

If you are having a hard time getting into a particular affiliate program because you have just started, FlexOffers can serve as your middle man.

Of course, the downside is that payouts are often low because flexoffers require a cut of each transaction.

The sign up process can be a pain to join Flexoffers. Since this is a sub-affiliate, FlexOffers is partly responsible for the quality of the conversion, which means that it can be selected when the affiliate companies allowed in its network are considered.

However, if you are a novice affiliate, Flexoffers is a great option and is worth applying for. Make sure your website is ready and presentable.

7. Sovrn //Commerce

I’m not a big fan of using automation to place commercial links on a blog, but some affiliate companies want to monetize with a little effort. Sovrn // Commerce is one way. Previously, this product was known as VigLink.

The service gives you CPC (cost-per-click) or CPA (cost per acquisition) merchants.

Sovrn // Commerce will automatically include attached links to your blog posts either through the WordPress plugin or through the Google Tag Manager. If you are looking for an easy way to monetize with affiliate links, Sovrn // Commerce is the way to do it.

I use Sovrn // commerce links directly in my content instead of using automated tools.

Using Sovrn // Commerce on user-generated content like forums on your site is a more reasonable option. With that in mind, the company also offers vBulletin and phpBB options.

8. Skimlinks

Skimlinks are similar to Sovrn // Commerce, Skimlinks will automatically create relevant links for you in your content. For content created without your participation (such as forums), this can be a great option.

You can also include links manually. Skimlinks currently operates with over 24,000 merchants in a thriving market. We also recommend signing up for this.
